If individuals are unable to obtain coverage from insurance agencies, there is a viable option. Insurance through the Maryland Auto Insurance Fund, MAIF, is available for those who have been rejected or cancelled by private insurance carriers. MAIF is a state initiative established in 1972 by the Maryland State Legislature for residents who could not get personal auto insurance. The rules for MAIF are governed by Maryland’s Title 20 Law of the Insurance Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland.

Roadway

Roadway Auto Insurance has serviced uninsurable clients throughout Maryland and the District of Columbia areas since 1992. They are knowledgeable and are a single-source insurance agency for personal auto insurance. Rates are very reasonable with immediate coverage available.
Roadway is able to replace cancelled policies and handle FR-19 and SR-22 needs. A signed insurance certificate, FR-19, states minimal insurance will remain in force and a SR-22 document verifies liability insurance is in force.

Requirements

In order to qualify for personal auto insurance through MAIF, individuals must meet Title 20 requirements: the inability to obtain liability insurance through a private company, be a resident of Maryland, and possess a current driver’s license or Maryland registration. Once the qualifications are met, Roadway can assist uninsured clients in obtaining car insurance.

Coverage

The state minimum, liability insurance, for personal auto insurance in Maryland is the same for all drivers. This mandate was adopted on January 1, 2011 and is 30/60/15. The breakdown is $30,000 bodily injury for one person, $60,000 for two or more people, and $15,000 for property damage. Bodily injury insurance is for the driver at fault to pay for injuries of the person(s) in the other vehicle and the amount of $30,000 is per person. The amount of $60,000 for bodily injury insurance is the total amount of coverage for all individuals involved in a car accident. “Property”, may refer to other personal property such as a building or tree; state, local or municipal property; or any other vehicles. These figures represent the total amount of the listed dollar amounts.
